Spain Weather

The north is consistently rainy in the winter with snow in the Pyrénées. During the summer, anywhere south of Madrid is extremely hot. During the fall and spring temperatures are very pleasant.

Barcelona

Barcelona enjoys a wonderful climate with hot summers and cool winters. The ideal months to visit the city, the Costa Brava, and the nearby resorts of Sitiges and Villanova are May, June and September, when visitors can expect good weather. In August, despite the shade in the tree-lined boulevards, locals desert Barcelona for the coastal resorts to escape the heat. January is the coldest month, with top temperatures averaging 55°F (13°C), while August is the hottest, with an average high of 82°F (29°C).

Zaragoza

It has a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters, although temperatures are milder than in the lower areas of the Aragón Ebro Valley. Rainfall reaches 500 mm and the average temperature is 15° C. It occasionally snows.

San Sebastian
Being on the coast, the weather is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Nevertheless, the temperatures are mild all year long. The rainy seasons are during the spring and the autumn. On the other hand, summers are not excessively hot with an average temperature of 18ºC and winters are not too cold with an average temperature of 8ºC.

Santillana del Mar

Thanks to the Gulf of Cantabria Stream, as well as the rest of the Cantabrian Region, it enjoys temperatures that are much milder than would correspond considering its latitude. The region has a humid oceanic climate, with mild summers and cool winters. Average annual rainfall is around 1200 mm along the coast, increasing towards the mountain areas.

The mean temperature is around 14 ºC (57.2 ºF). It often snows in the higher areas of Cantabria between the months of October and March. In some areas of the Picos de Europe mountains, above the 2500 m (8202 feet), there is a perennial snowfield. The driest months are July and August, although this does not mean dry weather, since there is always a small amount of rainfall and temperatures are never very high.

Oviedo

Asturias has a typical Atlantic climate except in the moutinous areas where its colder in winter. Temperatures are moderate and it rains often throughout the year. Summer temperatures are quite cool compared to other parts of the country, on average just 22º and the sea here is cold. Winters are quite mild. Another reason why people come to Asturias is to escape the heat.

Santiago de Compostela

As in almost all western Galicia, Santiago de Compostela has mild and rainy (between 700 and 900 mm of annual rain) weather. The distance to the coast, the land heights and the presence of nearby mountain ranges that “box” the city and its surroundings, are the main factors affecting the weather. The average temperature is 12° C and the highest peaks occur during the months of July and August.

Madrid

The climate of Madrid is dry, warm and pleasant. It's high altitude and proximity to mountains causes some wide variations in winter and summer temperatures. In summer the heat at midday can be intense, with pleasantly cool evenings. Winters, by contrast, bring temperatures dropping to just below freezing. Rain in Madrid is a rarity, with a short rainy season in late October and some showers in spring.
