Day 1 - Overnight Flight
Your trip begins with a regularly scheduled overnight flight to Athens aboard an internationally recognized airline.
Day 2 - Athens
Welcome to Athens! A Go Ahead representative greets you at the airport after you clear customs and then escorts you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or begin acquainting yourself with Athens. At an included dinner this evening, meet your fellow travelers.

Day 3 - Athens
A local guide introduces you to the highlights of this bustling ancient capital. On your tour of the Acropolis—the original City on a Hill—you can walk amid the ruins of the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike. Descending from the Acropolis, view the Presidential Guard in their traditional costumes and the classically inspired Greek Parliament. Then pass through Syntagma Square, where you’ll see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After your tour, opt for an excursion to Cape Sounion, where you can see the inspiring Temple of Poseidon.

Cape Sounion
Take in the sights of Apollo Coast—including sandy beaches, natural and manmade harbors and, of course, the Aegean Sea itself—during this unforgettable journey to the southern tip of the Attic Peninsula. High above the sparkling shoreline, the Temple of Poseidon dominates the landscape. Sixteen elegant Doric pillars remain of the original structure. From this lofty cliffside vantage point, you can see five Aegean islands on a clear day. After a guided tour, you'll have some free time to enjoy a coffee, go shopping, or just explore the area. Please note: This excursion involves some walking on uneven terrain.

Day 4 - The Aegean Islands
Travel to the port of Piraeus, where you’ll board your Louis Cruise Lines’ ship for a three-night cruise of the Aegean Islands. Your first port of call is the beautiful island of Mykonos.

Day 5 - The Aegean Islands
This morning, dock in the Turkish seaport of Kusadasi, a premier resort on the country’s western coast with a bustling harbor lined with inviting cafes. You might opt to visit the ruins of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved cities from ancient times. Then cruise onward to Patmos, part of the Dodecanese Island group. St. John of Patmos was exiled to this picturesque island in the 1st century A.D., during which time he wrote the apocalyptic Book of Revelation.

Day 6 - The Aegean Islands
Dock first thing this morning in Rhodes, where you’ll have a full day. The largest of the Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes is one of Greece’s most popular resort areas. According to ancient myth, this island erupted from the sea to appease Helios, the sun god, after Zeus overlooked him while distributing the Earth among the other gods. Rhodes was a center of Hellenistic culture in its early days, then became the territory of the medieval Knights of St. John. Its three major archaeological sites, Ialyssos, Lindos and Kamiron, date back to the 7th century B.C. Enjoy free time to walk through the Old Town, explore the Jewish Quarter, or see some of Rhodes’ Turkish mosques.

Day 7 - Crete
Your cruise ends this morning with disembarkation in Heraklion on the island of Crete, where you’ll enjoy a guided tour. Visit Knossos, the royal complex of the ancient King Minos. As ruler of the Minoans, King Minos enjoyed an opulent reign. His ancient palace includes 1,300 rooms, an alabaster throne and strikingly modern plumbing. Knossos is also the setting for the Minotaur legend, according to which King Minos imprisoned the Minotaur in a labyrinth. Dinner is included.

Day 8 - Crete
Explore Crete on your own today. You might choose to visit some of the island’s architecturally interesting churches or see the Minoan ruins at Faistós or Górtys. You might also choose to join an excursion to Venetian- and Turkish-influenced Rethymnon and the picturesque town of Fodhele.

Hania & Fodhele
Travel to Chania, where a local guide will introduce you to the city's Old Town. You'll visit Chania's cathedral before a walk through the Venetian quarter, where you'll reach Etz Hayyim, the only synagogue on the island of Crete and a symbol of the city's ages-old Jewish community. Your guided tour ends at the port where you'll visit an ancient mosque. On your way back to Heraklion, you'll visit the village of Fodhele, the birthplace of the painter El Greco. Lunch is included on this excursion.

Day 9 - Santorini
Transfer via ferry to Santorini, an island of stunning volcanic landscapes, black-sand beaches, sprawling vineyards and cliff-lined shores. Dinner is included this evening.

Day 10 - Santorini
On your guided tour of Santorini, visit the Archaeological Museum in Fira to view paintings, statues, pottery and frescoes from the prehistoric, Hellenistic and Byzantine periods. The afternoon is free to explore as you please.

Journey by boat to the island of Delos, rich with mythological history and once one of Greece's most sacred spots. Your guided tour of the island's ancient city will transport you to the time when this was an important center for trade in silk, spices and slaves. You can explore the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Sacred Cave, the Lion Terrace and the House of Dionysus, where you'll find a breathtaking mosaic of the god Dionysus.

Day 14 - Athens
Board a ferry in Mykonos this morning for your return trip to Athens. This afternoon and evening are free for you to continue your explorations of the ancient city. Tonight, you might opt to join our Greek Folklore Dinner, featuring live music and traditional Greek dancing.

With a full day at your leisure, plan to visit any of the city’s excellent museums or take a walk in the National Gardens. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to the Temple of Apollo in Delphi. Lunch is included on this excursion.

Delphi
Journey to the slopes of Mount Parnassus and the town of Delphi, home of the mystical oracle. Enjoy an included lunch in Delphi before embarking on a guided tour featuring the Temple of Apollo, where, according to legend, the god Apollo once communicated with mortals. Greece’s ancient military leaders customarily left gifts here in hopes of good fortune in battle. Later, visit the Delphi Museum, a collection that includes a huge bronze charioteer among its ancient treasures. Please note: This excursion involves some walking on uneven terrain and hills.

If you are not continuing on our tour extension to Istanbul, a Go Ahead representative escorts you to the airport for your return flight home.

The undisputed cultural, economic, and historical capital of Turkey, Istanbul has enough monuments and attractions (as well as enticing restaurants and shops) to keep you busy for days. Straddling Europe and Asia, the city once known as Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine and then the Ottoman Empire, has for centuries been a bustling and cosmopolitan crossroads. The Byzantine-built Aya Sofya and the Ottoman-era Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace are within walking distance of each other, while other historic mosques and churches are sprinkled throughout the city.
