3 Can’t-miss markets in London

Aug 21, 2015 by Courtney Keller

Museums, landmarks and parks abound in London, but markets are high on our must-visit list, too. This capital city’s vibrant street bazaars offer something for every traveler. Here are three of our favorite markets to visit in London.

1. Borough Market

Visit at: Borough High Street

Located in the city’s Southwark neighborhood, near London Bridge, Borough Market has existed in some form since traders began congregating in the area during the 13th century. This culinary hub has an incredible food selection. There are over 100 different stalls filled with both British and international treats. You’ll find everything from fish to fruit and poultry to pastries. Enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants, pubs, cafes, or other dining areas.

2. Portobello Road Market

Visit at: Portobello Road

Antiques, clothing, food, household items and even secondhand goods are just some of the treasures you’ll find at Portobello Road Market. Different stretches have stalls dedicated to each of these items, and you’ll also find plenty of stores and restaurants lining the streets of Portobello Road. The market is nestled in the charming neighborhood of Notting Hill in west London. Hop off at the Ladbroke Grove or Notting Hill Gate Tube stop—it’s an easy walk from either.

3. Camden Market

Visit at: Camden Lock Place

Best known for its eclectic atmosphere and huge variety of goods, Camden Market is a must-visit while in London. Whether you’re on the hunt for global cuisine or fashion, music and art, you’ll find something unique here. This bustling area near Regent’s Park is actually comprised of three different markets: Camden Lock, Camden Stables and Union Street. Take the Tube to the Camden Town stop and you can’t miss it.
