Day 2: Arrival in Dublin
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Ireland! Settle into your hotel. Then, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers at tonight’s welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Dublin
Included meal: Breakfast
Settled by the Gaels and disputed over centuries by the Vikings and Anglo-Normans, Dublin traces its history back more than 1,300 years. Today, you’ll peel back some of its layers on a comprehensive tour, led by a local expert.
- Stop in Phoenix Park, the largest enclosed public park in any European capital city. First established as a royal hunting ground by government decree in 1662, this 1,750-acre green space now houses the country’s presidential residence.
- Pass by St. James’s Gate Brewery, the legendary 260-year-old brewery behind Guinness dry stout. More than 50 million barrels ship out of the plant each year, making it the world’s most prolific producer of stout-style beers.
- Drive through Old Dublin, then step into St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the country’s largest church. Founded in 1191, it serves as the national cathedral for the Church of Ireland, and its arresting Gothic architecture befits a building of its stature.
- Traverse Dublin’s city center, passing 17th-century St. Stephen’s Green as you go. Afterward, take some time to admire the Georgian architecture of Merrion Square. The gardened area in the heart of Dublin was home to some of Ireland’s foremost writers—Oscar Wilde and W.B. Yeats among them.
- See the dignified facade of Trinity College—Ireland’s oldest university and alma mater of notables from Oscar Wilde to Samuel Beckett.
Fill your free afternoon by adding an optional excursion into County Wicklow and pay a visit to gorgeous Glendalough, the well-preserved ruins of a once-influential abbey. Or, if you’d prefer free time on your own, head down to the shores of the River Liffey and breathe in the ambiance of the lively Temple Bar district.
Please note: The departure time of the Glendalough excursion may vary.
County Limerick2 nights
Day 4: County Limerick via Kilkenny Castle & Rock of Cashel
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Explore the Irish countryside and cross into County Kilkenny, stopping at its namesake settlement. Briefly the capital of Ireland in the 17th century, Kilkenny lays claim to the country’s best-preserved medieval town—and an eponymous castle.
Built along the River Nore in 1260 and restored more than 700 years later, the imposing Kilkenny Castle welcomes more than 1 million visitors inside its walls annually. Count yourself among that number today as you roam the fortress and its gardens, then pass by the 13th-century St. Canice’s Cathedral. Named for Kilkenny’s patron saint, it’s Ireland’s second-largest medieval church.
Next, drive southwest through the lush fields of the Golden Vale into County Tipperary for a tour of the iconic Rock of Cashel. Home to more than 1,000 years of history, this 360-foot-tall outcrop guards a collection of Celtic, Christian, and Viking ruins and is one of Ireland’s premier attractions.
Continue to County Limerick and sit down with your group this evening for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 5: Free day in County Limerick
Included meal: Breakfast
Redefine “taking the scenic route” by opting into our excursion to the mesmerizing Cliffs of Moher—sheer bluffs stretching into the distance, crashing waves below. On this optional quest, you’ll also drive through the Burren. Distinct from the lush greens that typify the rest of the Irish landscape, grays dominate this limestone plateau, punctuated by bursts of wildflowers. Botanists will surely delight in this journey: More than 70% of Ireland’s flower species grow here.
Need a day to relax? You can also use your free time to unwind in your hotel or find a local pub, where you can tuck into a bowl of stew or seafood chowder.
Belfast2 nights
Day 6: Belfast via County Meath
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
En route to Belfast, you’ll stop in County Meath. Here, agriculture has been a cornerstone of the local economy for centuries. Today, you’ll visit a working farm to learn more about this time-tested way of life and pause for a snack of scones and tea or traditional Irish brown bread.
As you tour the farm, enjoy watching a sheep-herding demonstration. If your trip brings you to Ireland in early spring, you might even catch a glimpse of lambing season, the time of year when sheep give birth to their lambs.
Then, cross the border into Northern Ireland—a separate nation and a constituent country of the U.K.—where you’ll stop for the evening.
Day 7: Sightseeing tour of Belfast
Included meal: Breakfast
Northern Ireland’s largest city, seafaring Belfast possesses a long, proud history—one that you’ll dip into today. With help from a local guide, take a tour and get to know this nation’s capital from a unique perspective.
- Glimpse the patinated domes and sculpted walls of Belfast’s City Hall, where local leaders have met since the beginning of the 20th century. Then, move on to the Grand Opera House. Completely restored in the early 2020s, the almost 130-year-old building still hosts an assortment of performances, from ballet to comedy.
- Walk Belfast’s streets and let your guide educate you on the city’s past. Learn about everything from its Bronze Age origins and rise as an international seaport to its role in the vicious sectarian conflict known around the world as “the Troubles.”
- Enter the Titanic Belfast museum. The infamous vessel was built in the city’s shipyards by local manufacturers Harland & Wolff, and this exhibit highlights its history, from hopeful conception to tragic sinking.
This afternoon, add an outing to the Giant’s Causeway to explore its geometric perfection. Stepping down into the sea, this UNESCO World Heritage Site consists of some 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the supposed remnants of an encounter between two mythical giants.
Or, choose to spend your free day in Belfast at your leisure. Pushing up against the edge of the Queen’s University Belfast campus, the 19th-century Botanic Gardens boast a glass conservatory, an open-air rosarium, a museum, and more. You could roam its elegant paths for hours!
County Cavan1 night
Day 8: Transfer to Cabra Castle
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Leave Belfast behind and return to Ireland, making your way to County Cavan to spend a regal evening in a historic castle.
- Transfer to Cabra Castle, a 19th-century castle-turned-hotel whose towering, ivy-covered walls jut high above meticulously landscaped grounds. Although the current structure was rebuilt in 1808, the original structure (known as Cormey Castle) was built in the 1600s and destroyed in the Cromwellian War.
- Enjoy free time to explore the castle’s 100 acres of parks, gardens, and woodlands. Follow the walking trails through Dún a Rí Forest Park to spot mink, rabbits, and otters, as well as blankets of bluebells if you visit in the spring.
Celebrate your trip with your fellow travelers at tonight’s farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
Flight Home
Day 9: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to the Dublin airport for your flight home or extend your stay to explore more of the city where you launched your trip. You’ll get a mix of free time to enjoy Dublin at your own pace, plus opportunities to learn more about Irish history and culture—and to pick up a few dance steps if the music moves you.
Dublin extension
Rich in history. Alive with culture. A trip to Dublin is always a good idea, and you can experience more of everything the Irish capital has to offer by extending your tour. Roam the city with your Tour Director by your side and take in an enlightening visit to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum.
Dublin2 nights
Day 9: Transfer to Dublin & The EPIC Museum
Included meal: Breakfast
Travel back east to Dublin, then visit the city’s EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. The exhibition highlights the journeys of more than 10 million Irish people who left the country over the centuries, from early religious missionaries to those escaping the Great Famine.
- Take a guided tour of the award-winning museum and explore interactive digital exhibits that illustrate the struggles and triumphs of the emigrant experience.
- Learn why Irish emigrants left their home country, where they went, and how they shaped the world, with an emphasis on their personal stories.
One of Ireland’s gifts to the world is undoubtedly the high-flying, fleet-footed tradition of dance. Join us for an optional dinner and show to fill your heart (and maybe even your dance card).
If you’d like to explore on your own, use your free evening to check out Dublin’s (even more) festive side. Head to Grafton Street, the city’s primary shopping boulevard, for prime people-watching. You can also attend nighttime services at the hallowed St. Patrick’s Cathedral to see the sunset as it illuminates the stained-glass windows.
Day 10: Free day in Dublin
Included meal: Breakfast
Your final day in Dublin is entirely at your disposal. If you choose to join our excursion to Powerscourt Estate, you’ll get to wander the dreamy, sprawling gardens of this 13th-century castle.
Alternatively, stay behind and use your free day to visit a whiskey distillery to sample the distinct flavors that make the Irish varietal unique, or visit the National Gallery if you’re craving an art fix.
This evening, enjoy a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.
