Rio de Janeiro3 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Rio de Janeiro
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Brazil! Touch down in Rio de Janeiro and transfer to your hotel to get settled in.
Tonight, get to know your Tour Director and fellow travelers during a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine, at the Garota de Ipanema Restaurant—where Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes penned the beloved bossa nova tune, The Girl from Ipanema.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Rio de Janeiro & beaches
Included meal: Breakfast
Today, enjoy a cable car ride up Sugarloaf Mountain. Rising close to 1,300 feet above sea level at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, the granite monolith holds celebrity status in the area and internationally. Get ready to meet it up close, then, get to know Rio de Janeiro on a guided tour.
- Stop to take in scenic vistas of Botafogo as gleaming vessels bob in the waters of the Rio Yacht Club.
- Continue to the top of the mountain, soaking in panoramic views of the sprawling cityscape, Copacabana Beach, and the South Atlantic Ocean.
- Return to Rio to admire the city’s colonial architecture. You’ll pass the National Library (one of the largest in the world and the largest in Latin America), Municipal Theater, Candelária Church, and Tiradentes Palace,—a whimsical government edifice built during the centennial celebrations of Brazil’s independence
- Admire the Escadaria Selarón—the colorful steps-turned-famous-street-art painted by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón—and walk past the Museum of Tomorrow, a jaw-dropping museum dedicated to science and innovation designed by Spanish neofuturistic architect Santiago Calatrava with his trademark wing-like flourishes.
- Visit Cais do Valongo, the old docks where roughly 1 million enslaved Africans were traded from 1811 to 1831 until Brazil banned trafficking of enslaved people. It is memorialized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
- Get a backstage look into Carnival culture on visits to a samba school and a barracão, a workshop where artisans craft spectacular, elaborate parade floats and decorations.
This evening, enjoy free time at Rio’s world-famous Copacabana Beach, the sugar-white arc of sand in the heart of the luxurious Zona Sul neighborhood.
Day 4: Corcovado mountain
Included meal: Breakfast
While Rio is often enjoyed from a prime spot on one of its sun-splashed beaches, it’s even better from the water. This morning, add a sailboat cruise across Guanabara Bay, taking in the mountains, island chains, and skyline from a whole new perspective.
If you’re sticking to land, ask your Tour Director for a recommendation or use your free time to track down pão de queijo, a humble local snack of cheese and tapioca flour that’s crispy on the outside and gooey inside. Enjoy it with a cup of coffee for a great start to your day.
This afternoon, head to the top of Corcovado mountain for a guided tour of Rio’s symbolic peak, part of the Carioca landscape and topping out at more than 2,300 feet.
- Hop aboard the cogwheel train, taking in the rainforest landscape of Tijuca National Park—home to waterfalls, caves, and hundreds of species of flora and fauna—as you ride up the mountain.
- Stand in awe of the colossal Christ the Redeemer statue, the art deco sculptural and engineering marvel at the summit, and let your gaze follow its outstretched arms spanning 92 feet.
Tonight, indulge in a feathered, sequined, sparkling showcase of Carnival culture with an optional dinner and a show, complete with the belly-filling experience of a Brazilian barbecue where endless skewers of grilled meats are paraded and plated throughout the night. Not a meat eater? No problem. Herbivores will find classic, delectable side dishes to enjoy alongside the evening’s entertainment.
For an evening on your own, try a sunset stroll on the promenades along Copacabana or Ipanema beaches or tuck into a traditional boteco—an informal bar that serves snacks (petiscos to the locals!) and cold brews.
Paraty3 nights
Day 5: Transfer to Paraty & sightseeing tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Liquor tasting
Travel south along the coast to the charming, UNESCO-recognized town of Paraty—a bohemian destination for artists, chefs, and other bon vivants. When you arrive, enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant before setting out with your Tour Director for a walk through the town whose colonial architecture dates to the 17th century. Paraty is known for its cultural events—including an international literary festival—and for its community of traditional inhabitants, the caiçaras, who maintain a lifestyle deeply connected to the sea and forests that surround them.
- Stroll along cobbled streets past the whitewashed buildings, churches, and artist workshops that line the coastal town.
- End with a tasting of cachaça, a fermented Brazilian liquor made with sugarcane juice. The creation of Brazil’s national spirit begins with the harvesting of sugarcane, a process usually done manually, followed by fermenting, distilling, and even aging the precious liquid. It’s a key ingredient in Brazil’s famous cocktail, the caipirinha.
Day 6: Serra da Bocaina Jeep tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Liquor tasting
The 104,000 hectares of the Serra da Bocaina National Park are filled with some of the planet’s most biodiverse landscapes, stretching from the coast to the inland mountains. Hop aboard a 4x4 Jeep this morning and set off into the park, where you’ll visit roaring waterfalls, the preserved, historical Gold Trail (used to transport gold from the mines to the coast), and more during this morning’s adventure.
Afterwards, visit a cachaça distillery, where you’ll learn more about how the traditional spirit is produced and enjoy a tasting. Then, sit down for an included lunch before returning to your hotel in Paraty.
Day 7: Free day in Paraty
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
The waters off the coast of Paraty are home to more than 300 islands. If you chose to join the schooner tour to Cotia Island this morning, you’ll be treated to warm, crystalline waters. Swim, snorkel, or enjoy the waves from above deck.
For a free day on your own in Paraty, return to the town’s historic center to view the 18th-century Church of Santa Rita and be sure to include a waterfront lunch. You’ll want to try the local seafood, of course.
Later tonight, rejoin your group for an included dinner, served with your choice of beer or wine.
São Paulo1 night
Day 8: Transfer to São Paulo
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Farewell dinner
Known as the melting pot of Brazil thanks to its large international and expat populations, São Paulo is a fast-paced, ever-evolving megalopolis of some 22 million people. Continue south to this vibrant cultural hub, stopping along the way for an included lunch.
After settling into your hotel, meet up with your group to celebrate your trip during tonight’s farewell, rodízio-style dinner, served with beer or wine. You’ll want to get familiar with the color-coded card system that signals your servers (also known as passadores, or gauchos) whether you’ve had your fill (red card) or are ready for more (green card).

- End with a visit to the Liberdade neighborhood—marked by a tall, crimson torii, or gateway—home to the world’s largest Japanese diaspora. Enjoy time to explore the area’s nooks and crannies before gathering for one last included lunch.
Then, relax in a dayroom before boarding your flight home tonight or early tomorrow morning. If you’re not ready to leave Brazil behind, take us up on the extension to Iguazú Falls to see its majestic waters from the Argentinian and Brazilian side.
