Itinerary

Overnight Flight1 night
Day 1: Travel day
Board your overnight flight to Dublin today.
Fitzpatrick Castle in Dublin2 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Dublin & transfer to Fitzpatrick Castle
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Ireland! Touch down, then transfer to Fitzpatrick Castle—an 18th-century manor house on the outskirts of Dublin. After settling into your room, get to know your Tour Director and fellow travelers over a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Dublin
Included meal: Breakfast
Settled by the Gaels and disputed for centuries by the Vikings and Anglo-Normans, Dublin traces its history back more than 1,300 years. With help from a local expert, you’ll dig into its more recent past on today’s guided sightseeing tour.
- Stop in Phoenix Park, the largest enclosed public park in any European capital city. First established as a royal hunting ground by government decree in 1662, this 1,750-acre green space now houses the country’s presidential residence.
- Pass by St. James’s Gate Brewery, the legendary 260-year-old brewery behind Guinness dry stout. More than 50 million barrels ship out of the plant each year, making it the world’s most prolific producer of stout-style beers.
- Drive through Old Dublin, then step into St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the country’s largest church. Founded in 1191, it serves as the national cathedral for the Church of Ireland, and its arresting Gothic architecture befits a building of its stature.
- Pass the 17th-century St. Stephen’s Green and take some time to admire the Georgian architecture of Merrion Square. This gardened area in the heart of Dublin was home to some of Ireland’s foremost writers—Oscar Wilde and W.B. Yeats among them.
- See the dignified facade of Trinity College—Ireland’s oldest university and alma mater of notables from Oscar Wilde to Samuel Beckett.
After the morning’s activities, spend a relaxing afternoon in the city. To fill your evening with glimmering views of Dublin Bay, be sure to add our optional cruise to your itinerary.
County Galway2 nights
Day 4: County Galway via Rathbaun Farm
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning, bid Dublin farewell and cut west across the countryside to County Galway. Before arriving at your historic estate hotel, you’ll pause at Rathbaun Farm. Centered on a 250-year-old thatched cottage, this 80-acre property offers visitors a genuine taste of rural Irish life—complete with sheep-herding demonstrations and an included homemade lunch.
Wrap up your visit and push farther into County Galway. Check into your hotel room, then reconvene with your groupmates for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 5: Full day in County Galway
Included meal: Breakfast
For architecture and vistas plucked out of a fantasy novel—and oysters shucked fresh from Ballinakill Bay—you’ll want to add our optional visit to Kylemore Abbey and Connemara National Park to your itinerary. If you’d rather hang back in your corner of County Galway, ask your Tour Director for recommendations.
Kilronan Castle in County Roscommon2 nights
Day 6: Kilronan Castle via Ashford Castle
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Drive into County Mayo this morning and make your first stop of the day at Ashford Castle. Now a hotel, this fortress-turned-residence has stood on the shores of Lough Corrib for more than 800 years—and today, it’s yours to explore.
- Dig into an included lunch in the elegant George V Dining Room. Adorned with wood paneling and Waterford Crystal chandeliers, it bears the name of one of its most famous patrons—the ninth monarch of Britain.
- Enjoy a leisurely walk through the estate’s gorgeous gardens. (If you head down to the lake, you’ll be treated to a privileged view typically only afforded to overnight guests.)
Then, continue to the border of Counties Sligo and Roscommon, where you’ll pull into the second castle stay of your trip. Set on 40 acres of manicured grounds just inland from Lough Meelagh, the 19th-century Kilronan Castle was in a state of disrepair as recently as the early 2000s. After meticulous restoration, it reopened as a luxury hotel—and still wows guests with its Gothic Revival architecture. Tonight, you’ll sit down to an included dinner, served with beer or wine, at the property before turning in.
Day 7: Free day at Kilronan Castle
Included meal: Breakfast
Today’s yours to spend as you please—whether you join us on an optional excursion or relax in the comfort of Kilronan Castle. Add the former to your itinerary, and you’ll pair the historic landscapes of the Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery with the quaint lanes of Sligo town. Opt for the latter, and you’ll enjoy the castle’s accommodations at your own pace.
Killeavy Castle Estate in County Armagh 2 nights
Day 8: Killeavy Castle Estate via Lough Erne & afternoon tea
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Today, drive east toward the border of Northern Ireland—a separate country and a constituent of the United Kingdom. Before arriving in County Armagh, savor a tranquil moment on the shores of Lough Erne, a vast lake dotted with islands crowned by monastic ruins.
Following that scenic detour, complete your journey to Killeavy Castle. Tucked away in the wooded hills of Slieve Gullion, the original structure dates to 1836 and was recognized as a Grade A Listed Building—the highest historic classification in Northern Ireland. After arriving, unwind with an included afternoon tea service at an estate on the castle’s grounds. Sip on a cuppa and pick at an assortment of finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries; once you’ve had your fill, check into your room and rest up.
Day 9: Free day at Killeavy Castle Estate & farewell dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
How will you spend your last full day on tour? The wild terrain of the Mourne Mountains beckons on today’s optional excursion—add it to your itinerary to fill up on incredible views, with a sweet-and-fiery surprise at the end. Alternatively, treat yourself to some relaxation at the Killeavy Castle Estate by booking a spa treatment or hiking through the nearby Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Tonight, come together as a group one last time for a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
Flight Home
Day 10: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to Dublin’s airport for your flight home or admire more of the Irish capital’s treasures—like a castle that locals say rivals Versailles—on your trip’s extension.
Dublin extension
You already got a glimpse of the Irish capital at the beginning of your trip—now, get the full picture. On this extension, you and your fellow travelers will have plenty of time to explore Dublin at your leisure. And between a visit to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and a pair of can’t-miss excursions, you’ll get to check out more local landmarks (and pick your Tour Director’s brain for recommendations).
Dublin2 nights
Day 10: Transfer to Dublin & EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum
Included meal: Breakfast
Cross back into the Republic of Ireland and make for Dublin. While some of your companions head to the airport for their flights home, you’ll visit a special attraction: EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. This exhibition highlights the journeys of the more than 10 million Irish people who left their country over the centuries, from early religious missionaries to those fleeing the Great Famine.
- Take a guided tour of the award-winning museum and explore interactive digital exhibits that illustrate the struggles and triumphs of Irish emigrants.
- Learn why these individuals left their home country, where they went, and how they shaped the world, with an emphasis on their personal stories.
To round out your return to Dublin with a perfectly poured pint and incomparably good grub, add our optional excursion to your itinerary to tour the Guinness Storehouse and sit down to dinner at a local pub. If you’d prefer free time on your own, head down to the shores of the River Liffey and breathe in the ambiance of the lively Temple Bar district.
Day 11: Free day in Dublin
Included meal: Breakfast
For a walk down Dublin’s festive side, spend your afternoon strolling Grafton Street. The former is the city’s primary shopping boulevard—and a great complement to Temple Bar, if you visited last night. Alternatively, wrap yourself in shades of emerald by tacking on an optional excursion to the immaculate gardens of Powerscourt Estate.
This evening, enjoy a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.

Physical Activity & Tour Pacing Questions
- Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special mobility or luggage-handling assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the whole group enjoys a smooth and informative journey, and they can’t be relied on to provide individualized assistance to any one traveler.

- Accommodations are typically three-to-four-star hotels; always include private bathrooms; and usually have in-room safes for valuables. Additionally, your hotels will have Wi-Fi, but access may be limited to common areas. In older castles, thick stone walls may affect in-room signal strength; we recommend downloading entertainment and maps ahead of time for offline use. There may also not be elevators.
- Many of the properties on this tour are historic, which means room configurations, hallway layouts, and accessibility features may differ from a standard hotel. If you have specific mobility or accessibility needs, reach out to us before booking this tour.
- Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that your accommodations will have laundry services or facilities. We recommend checking directly with your hotels once they’ve been confirmed, about 30 days prior to departure.

- Please be advised that the air conditioning in European hotels and buildings is often not as strong or cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. Additionally, some properties on this tour—particularly castles—may not offer in-room air conditioning. We recommend packing a small personal fan if this is a concern.
- All destinations on this tour operate within 230-240 volts and use Type G plugs with three large, flat pins.

- Optional excursions may be canceled on tour due to reasons like low enrollment, weather, or unexpected closures. If an excursion you signed up for is canceled by Go Ahead Tours, you’ll be refunded the full cost of the excursion. (It may take up to 60 days for your refund to be processed.)

- If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of your tour, as well as for any possible delays.
- Most of our itineraries include headsets that are used during sightseeing tours so travelers can better hear their guides or Tour Director. If you use an assisted listening device, such as a hearing aid or cochlear implant, please contact our Customer Experience Team—we may be able to provide alternative solutions to best suit your needs. Please note that, due to supplier limitations, we can’t offer headsets on all our tours at this time.

- Your Tour Director will lead your group. Their role is not only to provide information and context on the destinations you visit, but also to confirm services, coordinate inclusions, prepare each day’s activities, and support travelers while on tour. As such, they must focus on the success of the group, and can’t provide individualized assistance to any one traveler.

- When interacting with locals, make sure to ask people for permission before you take their picture, and approach cultural differences with empathy and an open mind.
- Go Ahead Tours encourages travelers to limit their waste while on the road, especially single-use plastics.
