Day 2: Arrival in Berlin
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Germany! Meet your fellow travelers at tonight’s welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Berlin
Included meal: Breakfast
Berlin wears its history in plain sight, and a local guide will help you read the city like a living archive. Let them pull back the curtain on a place that’s constantly rewriting its own story: One moment, you’re tracing the scars of history; the next, you’re swept up in its electric present.
- Begin your panoramic driving tour through the heart of East and West Berlin, where centuries of upheaval and reinvention unfold around every corner.
- Cruise down the grand boulevard of Unter den Linden, shaded by its namesake linden trees, and take in the gleaming glass dome of the Reichstag, the classical facades of Museum Island, and the vibrant pulse of Alexanderplatz—all icons of a city that wears its history boldly.
- Pause for a photo stop at the haunting Holocaust Memorial, a field of stelae that disorients and stirs, its uneven ground and towering slabs a solemn tribute to lives lost. From here, walk to the Brandenburg Gate, whose soaring columns have witnessed Napoleon’s march, Cold War tensions, and today’s Berliners gathering in celebration and protest alike.
- Wrap up your journey at the East Side Gallery, where a surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall has been transformed into a color-splashed canvas of hope. Stroll past murals that speak to freedom, resilience, and the city’s ever-evolving spirit.
If you join us on our optional excursion, you’ll deepen your understanding of Germany’s past and present with an insider’s look into Berlin during World War II, focused on the rise and fall of Hitler and the Third Reich. Prefer to head off on your own? Use your free afternoon in Berlin to wander the Spree River promenade. Grab a coffee and follow the riverside paths through Monbijou Park and across pedestrian bridges, watching boats drift by. Street musicians and beer gardens along the way add a quintessentially Berliner soundtrack.
Day 4: Potsdam
Included meal: Breakfast
In Potsdam, history didn’t just happen, it was negotiated. This is where the leaders of the Allied powers met in 1945 to decide Germany’s future and redraw the map of Europe. Visiting today means stepping into the setting of one of the most consequential chapters of the 20th century.
- Explore the town center, New Garden, and Dutch Quarter with a guide who brings context to every corner—from the quiet streets that once housed military strategists to the manicured grounds that framed global diplomacy.
- Enter Cecilienhof Palace, the site of the Potsdam Conference, where Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin sat down to shape the postwar world. The rooms remain much as they were, offering a rare chance to stand inside the very space where history turned.
Dresden2 nights
Day 5: Sightseeing tour of Dresden
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Leave Berlin for a guided tour of Dresden, once known as the Florence on the Elbe for its astonishing concentration of art, architecture, and culture—much of which has been painstakingly restored after the devastation of World War II.
- Stroll through the Old Town, where reconstructed streets hide layers of history, and pass the Semperoper. Completed in 1841, this opera house is also home to the Saxon State Orchestra, whose performances have drawn composers like Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss.
- Stand beneath the Frauenkirche, a Lutheran landmark rebuilt after its destruction in World War II using original plans and salvaged stones—a powerful symbol of the city’s resilience. Just outside, a statue of Martin Luther honors the theologian whose 16th-century teachings sparked the Protestant Reformation, anchoring Dresden’s deep ties to Lutheran history.
- Explore the Zwinger, a Baroque masterpiece whose galleries once hosted the treasures of Saxon kings. Wander the palace gardens and admire fountains designed to impress visiting royalty, a vivid reminder of Dresden’s gilded past.
This evening, sit down to an included dinner with your group, with an accompanying glass of beer or wine.
Day 6: Free day in Dresden
Included meal: Breakfast
A fascinating piece of German history awaits you in Gorlitz if you choose to add our optional excursion today. Before World War II, Gorlitz was a single city on both sides of the Western Neisse River. After the war, the new Oder–Neisse line split it in two: the western half remained in Germany, while the eastern half became Zgorzelec, Poland. Today, the two towns are still connected by pedestrian bridges, letting visitors cross from one country to another in minutes—an experience that brings the postwar map of Europe vividly to life.
Choosing to stay behind? Start your free day in Dresden on Bruhl’s Terrace, where the Elbe River glitters below and spires rise in every direction. Later, you can wander across the Augustus Bridge into the bohemian Neustadt, full of street art, indie shops, and beer gardens.
Bamberg2 nights
Day 7: Bamberg via Weimar
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Travel to Bamberg by way of Weimar, Germany’s intellectual crucible where Goethe penned his masterpieces, Nietzsche wrestled with philosophy, and Schiller’s plays first leapt to the stage.
- Wander the Old Town, where classical facades and quiet courtyards recall centuries of literary gatherings, and hear how these streets inspired some of the most influential thinkers in Western history.
- Discover vestiges of the Bauhaus movement, the revolutionary design school founded in Weimar in 1919, whose minimalist forms and bold ideas reshaped art and architecture around the world.
- End in front of the National Theater and pause at the monument to Goethe and Schiller, a tribute to the city’s enduring role as a stage for creativity, debate, and artistic innovation.
Then, continue to Bamberg, where you’ll sit down to an included group dinner, served with beer or wine.
Please note: Some departures may overnight in Wurzburg, Bayreuth, or Coburg instead of Bamberg. During the guided sightseeing tour, groups larger than 20 will be split into smaller parties.
Day 8: Sightseeing tour of Bamberg
Included meal: Breakfast
Set off with a local guide on a walking tour through Bamberg, a city famously built on seven hills, each crowned with churches and idyllic squares. Its medieval streets are remarkably intact, giving you a sense of how the city thrived as a cultural and political hub in the Holy Roman Empire. Bamberg is also celebrated for its smoked beer, a centuries-old brewing tradition that makes its pubs a destination in their own right.
- Enter the towering Bamberg Cathedral, a Romanesque masterpiece dating to the 13th century, where you can admire the intricate sculpture of the Bamberg Horseman and the tombs of emperors. The surrounding square buzzes with the quiet rhythm of daily life amid historic facades.
- Pass the Baroque New Palace, whose ornamental details hint at the city’s opulent past, and stand before the Old Town Hall. Uniquely perched on an island in the Regnitz River, this medieval statement of power is one of Bamberg’s most photographed landmarks.
- Visit the quaint Fishermen’s Quarter—affectionately called Little Venice—where colorful half-timbered houses line the riverbanks and the scent of the water mixes with the aroma of fresh-baked goods wafting out of nearby shops.
Enjoy a free afternoon in Bamberg—be sure to ask your Tour Director for a recommendation—or join the optional excursion to Nuremberg. It’s tailor-made for history buffs: You’ll visit the Palace of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials took place and walk around its walled Old Town.
Munich3 nights
Day 9: Munich via Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Included meal: Breakfast
Set off for Munich, pausing along the way in Rothenburg ob der Tauber—one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval towns. Follow your Tour Director on a brief walking tour through its storybook squares, where pastel-painted houses lean over cobblestone lanes and bright geraniums spill out of flower boxes. There’s time to snap a photo of the iconic Plonlein corner’s gingerbread facades before continuing your journey.
Arrive in Munich and enjoy a free evening to make your own introductions to the Bavarian capital. Skip the beer halls for tonight (you’ll get a day’s worth tomorrow!) and instead wander through the atmospheric Glockenbachviertel, a creative neighborhood brimming with quirky boutiques, leafy courtyards, and cozy wine bars. Or, take an evening stroll in the English Garden, where locals picnic along the Isar River and street musicians give the park a soft soundtrack.
Day 10: Oktoberfest in Munich
Included meal: Breakfast
This afternoon, you’ll get to join thousands of revelers with a special admission to an Oktoberfest tent. Prepare for a whirlwind of Bavarian tradition, music, and merriment as you toast with steins of golden lager. Don your dirndls and lederhosen and tap your feet to folk music from boisterous brass bands. The best accompaniment to Munich’s famous beer? Bites of Bavarian delicacies like pretzels and sausage, of course. Prost!
Day 11: Free day in Munich
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Use your free day in Munich to indulge in more beer tent revelry or head to the festival’s massive outdoor fairgrounds for carnival rides; traditional music performances; and food stalls piled high with roasted almonds, sausages, and gingerbread hearts. Or, let the magic of Neuschwanstein Castle beckon you on our optional excursion to this Bavarian jewel believed to be the inspiration for Disneyland’s castle.
Back in Munich, say goodbye to your groupmates at a farewell dinner this evening, served with beer or wine.

Vienna3 nights
Day 12: Vienna via Salzburg

Known locally as the Altstadt, Salzburg’s historic core has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, honoring its legacy at the confluence of Italian and German culture. Spend a few hours strolling the church-lined streets of Mozart’s birthplace before continuing on your journey.

Coffeehouse culture. The Age of Empires. Symphonies and orchestras. Vienna has influenced world affairs for centuries; today, you’ll enjoy the best of the City of Dreams on a guided sightseeing tour.
- Travel down the tree-canopied paths of the Ringstrasse—Vienna’s gorgeous Ring Road—passing the Austrian Parliament Building, Vienna State Opera, and Kunsthistorisches Museum as you go. You’ll get to visit the latter, home to the Habsburgs’ vast art collection.
- See the grand Hofburg Palace. Once the seat of the Habsburg dynasty, it now serves as the official residence and office of the president of Austria.
- End your tour with free time in Vienna’s historic center to view the 12th-century St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
To bookend your day with some sweet relaxation (and a glass or two of wine), take up tonight’s outing to a heuriger—a traditional Austrian tavern. Or, spend your evening strolling Vienna’s beautiful boulevards at your own pace.
Day 14: Free day in Vienna
