Day 10: Sightseeing tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia

Included meal: Breakfast

Spend the morning aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, Queen Elizabeth II’s legendary floating palace—a vessel that once carried the royal family across more than a million nautical miles of open sea.

  • Step into the State Apartments and royal bedrooms, where crisp linens, personal mementos, and quietly opulent furnishings offer an intimate glimpse into life at sea for one of the world’s most famous families.
  • Descend into the gleaming Engine Room, a surprisingly mesmerizing cathedral of polished brass and steel, and peek into the crew quarters where 220 Royal Yachtsmen once kept Britannia humming.
  • Head into the Sun Lounge, the royal family’s favorite spot to exhale between engagements—every detail preserved exactly as it was the day Britannia was decommissioned in 1997, as if they’d only just stepped ashore.

Use your free afternoon in the city to go back and wander the winding streets of Old Town. If you’re feeling adventurous, perhaps consider a spooky stroll through the tunnels that weave underneath the city. Of course, there’s always tucking into a booth in a cozy cafe and lingering over tea and shortbread.

Day 11: Free day in Edinburgh

Included meal: Breakfast

Join the optional day trip to St Andrews—the home of golf and of Scotland’s oldest university. You’ll walk by the grounds of the University of St Andrews, an institution of higher education that has existed since 1413. (Fun fact for our anglophiles: Prince William met Kate Middleton while studying there!) Then, you’ll join a local guide to enter the ruins of the town’s medieval cathedral—a 12th-century structure that, in its heyday, was the largest church ever built in Scotland.

Not joining the excursion? Head southeast of the city center to Craigmillar Castle for a quieter, more atmospheric alternative to Edinburgh Castle. Wonderfully preserved and with jaw-dropping views of Edinburgh, it twice hosted Mary, Queen of Scots.

This evening, enjoy a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.
