Day 1: Arrival in Charleston

Welcome to South Carolina! Transfer to your hotel and get settled in. Then, the rest of the day is free for you to relax or explore the city.

Day 2: Sightseeing tour of Charleston

Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the city’s landmarks and surrounding plantations.

  • See the Old Slave Mart Museum, restored to recognize and educate on Charleston’s role in the slave trade industry
  • Pass by the Old Citadel, the College of Charleston, and the Four Corners of Law
  • View the Battery, Rainbow Row, and the Charleston Museum
  • Admire the Old Exchange Building and City Market

This afternoon head outside of Charleston to visit the Middleton Place plantation and gardens.

  • Discover this National Historic Landmark on a guided tour of the House Museum
  • Walk through the gardens, which sit on a sprawling 65-acres of Lowcountry land

    This was a nice relaxing trip. The weather was nice. It did rain, but we were traveling on the bus, so no big deal. The excursions were interesting, the gardens were beautiful. We ate some really good food. The sweat tea was always consistently good.

    I really enjoyed touring a part of the US I had never been to and learning some of their history. It was interesting and I would recommend it to everyone wanting to know about the states of the US.

    • U.S. citizens need valid government-issued identification for air travel within the United States. If you plan to use a state-issued ID or driver's license on or after May 7, 2025, 2023, it will need to meet Real ID requirements.     Tour pacing & mobility
    • You will walk for at least 2 hours daily across moderately uneven terrain, including paved roads and cobblestone streets, with few hills.
    • Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance. Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.
    • You should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at times.
    • Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special, individual mobility assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group as a whole enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing, individualized assistance to any one traveler.

    • Round-trip flights booked through Go Ahead Tours arrive in Charleston, South Carolina and depart from Savannah, Georgia. A representative from Go Ahead Tours will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Please remain in the arrival lounge, as the representative might be escorting one of your fellow travelers to the bus at the time of your arrival.
    • Transfers to and from the airport at your destination are included for travelers who have purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who purchase their own flights may request airport transfers with Go Ahead Tours for an additional cost.

    • We recommend tipping $8USD to $10USD per person per day for your Tour Director and $3USD per person per day for your driver.
