Travel tips for Barcelona tours
Here are a few things to do on our Barcelona tours:
· Walk around the Barri Gòtic, or Gothic Quarter. Laced with narrow, medieval streets and packed with restaurants, bars, and shops, this historic neighborhood is a highlight of many Barcelona tours.
· Enjoy some down time at Port Olímpic. This marina was built for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and has since become a popular spot for its beaches, restaurants, and nightlife.
· Take in views from Bunkers del Carmel. This site consists of several underground military bunkers used during the Spanish Civil War. Today it’s a popular gathering spot for wine drinking and sunset watching.
· Have a snack at Mercado de La Boqueria. This famous, centrally located market houses dozens of vendors selling everything from fresh juice to cheese and everything in between.
If you’re considering one of our trips to Barcelona, you’ll find a reason to visit practically any time of year. Here are a few seasonal highlights:
· February and March: This time of year, temps may hover in the 50s, but this is also when Carnival—the Spanish equivalent of Mardi Gras—takes place.
· May and June: Tours of Barcelona in late-spring and early summer arrive just in time to enjoy pleasant temperatures in the 60s and 70s—plus blooming flowers, trees, and gardens.
· July and August: If you like action and adventure—not to mention lots of sunshine and soaring temps—check out our Barcelona trips departing in the height of summer. This is when you’re likely to encounter street fairs and festivals. Plus, it’s beach season.
· September and October: Travelers who book fall Barcelona vacation packages are in for a treat. Temperatures are still warm enough for the beach and sightseeing, but crowds are far thinner.
Whether the tours to Barcelona you’re eyeing arrive in the dead of winter or the height of summer, here are a few things to toss in your suitcase:
· Comfortable walking shoes. Trips to Barcelona typically include lots of exploring by foot—a common and convenient way to get around Europe’s major cities.
· A crossbody bag or money belt. Deter potential pickpockets by keeping your belongings close to your person.
· A light scarf. In the winter, wrap it around your shoulders or neck to ward off the chill. In summer, use it to shield bare skin from the Spanish sun.
· Sun protection. The sun shines in Barcelona throughout much of the year, so bring a hat, sunglasses, and SPF.
A few bites to look out for on a tour of Barcelona include:
· Jamón Ibérico. This dry-cured, thinly sliced ham is produced from the acorn-fed black Iberian pig.
· Pa amb tomàquet. Translation: bread with tomato. This simple yet stunningly delicious dish is made by smearing a slice of homemade crusty bread with a layer of fresh tomato and garlic, and topping it with a drizzle of flavorful olive oil.
· Pimientos de Padron. These small, highly snackable green peppers are fried in oil and seasoned with flaky salt.
