What our travelers say about their tours of Spain

Grand Tour of Spain was GRAND
05/05/22 by 1st-time traveler Anonymous
EF Tours very organized down to the the smallest detail. Kris, our Tour Director, was fabulous, sense of humor, concerned about all of us having the best tour experience possible. I would book another tour with EF & recommend EF to friends.

Our trip was planned perfectly and Luis, our host, was amazing. His knowledge of our sites and history of Spain was beyond belief. He took care of every aspect of our trip with patience and his humor was ever present. We'd love to take another tour with him one day soon.

I am impressed by the well-organized and cheerfully and knowledgeably led Barcelona tour. Our Tour Director was indefatigably cheerful and unflappable. She was always armed with great stories and facts about the sights and experiences. Our Guide also was highly knowledgeable

The food and wine tour in Spain was fantastic! Beautiful scenery, vineyards, wonderful food and plenty of wine. Our tour director, Marcello was awesome, very attentive, personal and easy to work with. We had a smaller group of 18 which was great, love the small group experience. Highly recommend

Impressed
By 2-time traveler Sharon S. on 11/20/2018
The tour chose well the areas to be explored on this trip. I was impressed how I thought I have seen the best Spain had to offer only to find out there was more, then more, then more. The tour guides were very good and knew the details of their tour subject.

Travel tips for Spain trips

When to visit Spain

Located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe, Spain has a climate that varies across its different regions. Along the eastern coast, you can expect to find a Mediterranean climate, which means hot summers and mild winters. Central Spain experiences very hot summers and cold winters, while Northern Spain tends to have more mild and humid weather.

So when is the best time to visit Spain? It depends on your preferences! Our guided tours of Spain run during every season since the country offers an amazing experience to travelers at any time of the year. If a lot of sunshine is what you seek, set out to see Spain in the summer. Spring and fall are becoming more popular times to visit thanks to the comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds at landmarks and major sites.

Where to go in Spain

If you're planning a trip to Spain, think about which locations top your wish list. The country is quite large, with 17 distinct regions. Each one has its own unique flair, from Andalusia to Catalonia, and Basque Country to Costa del Sol.

Tours of Spain are an excellent way to explore the country, since we handle all of the transportation and logistics for you. Hit the highlights on a 10-day tour of Barcelona, Madrid & Seville or take a deep dive into Spanish culture on our two-week Grand Tour of Spain. If the country's culinary scene is calling you, then perhaps our Food & Wine: A Taste of Spain trip is right for you.

The best cities to visit in Spain on tour have something for travelers of every interest:

  • The Prado Museum and Royal Palace are two must-visit spots in the capital of Madrid.
  • Stroll along Playa de la Concha in seaside San Sebastian.
  • Barcelona is the place to try pintxos, wander the streets of the Gothic Quarter, and see Gaudí's masterpieces.
  • In Seville, admire beautiful whitewashed buildings and be wowed by a traditional flamenco show.
  • Step back in time at the iconic Alhambra in Granada.

Dining tips for Spain

Spain is known for its incredible food and wine. There are a few things to know about traditional meals and when they're usually served before joining one of our trips to Spain.

Breakfast is typically small, with just coffee and a small pastry. Lunch is the largest and most important meal of the day, served at 1pm or later. It often consists of several courses and is followed by the famous siesta, or resting time. Many businesses and restaurants are closed from about 2 to 4pm. Dinner is a much lighter meal and often isn't started until 9 or 10pm. During the long days of summer, locals may not eat dinner until around midnight! But not to worry, while on one of our Spain tour packages, included meals won't be served that late.

Wondering what to try? Churros con chocolate are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Tapas, or small plates, are often eaten for dinner and can be shared with your fellow travelers. The traditional rice dish called paella, which can be made with fish or meat, is also a must-taste. Dip bread in locally-made olive oil—Spain is the world's largest producer of this specialty

Packing tips for Spain

We recommend packing light when taking one of our Spain escorted tours. One suitcase and one carry-on per person is a good guideline to follow when preparing to go. While you're on tour, porterage at your hotels will be included, but you should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at the airport.

Lightweight clothing that can be easily layered is always a good idea, so you're prepared for any type of weather. A comfortable pair of walking shoes, as well as a light jacket, are important to have with you while you're out exploring. If you're traveling to Spain in the summer, don't forget to bring sunscreen and sunglasses!

Once you’ve reserved your trip to Spain, we’ll send you detailed information about getting ready for your trip—including more packing tips!
