A personalized trip to Portugal & Spain

Dec 14, 2017 by The Go Ahead Tours Team

Did you know that you can make any of our 175+ tours an exclusive departure with just 7 people? Turn any trip on our website into a Private Tour, just for you and your group, or incorporate new elements into an itinerary by creating a Tailor-made Tour. Here’s how Group Coordinator Gerry made a journey to Portugal and Spain all his own by tailoring it to his group’s interests.

Wine Dine Shrine tour

Starting with a theme

The idea behind the trip Gerry and his friends were dreaming of was clear from the get-go: Wine, dine, and shrine on the Iberian Peninsula. “What we wanted to do was hit all of the shrines, go to some wineries, and of course include dining as a part of every day,” he said. The theme was in place, so next came making arrangements for the shared adventure.

Since he had enjoyed traveling with Go Ahead Tours twice before, Gerry decided to work with us to plan the trip. With help from our team every step of the way, he customized the itinerary to make sure the tour would touch on all of the cultural and historical components his group was hoping to experience. Gerry was also able to earn a free spot on tour, one of the many benefits of organizing a group with us. When it came to travel logistics, he got all the support he was looking for. “To work out the fine details with your team—I loved that,” he shared.

One-of-a-kind experiences

One aspect of the trip that was important to Gerry was the inclusion of all evening meals, which were designed as part of the itinerary. “Dinner is the most important part of the day since it gets everyone together,” Gerry said. “You can wrap up the day and reflect, have a drink or two, and just have fun.”

Along with these shared culinary experiences, the unique hotels in Portugal and Spain were particularly memorable. “The views were incredible from our hotel in San Sebastián, and we even stayed in a monastery with amazing grounds in Santiago de Compostela.” The other activities that the travelers couldn’t stop raving about? Visits to the Condes de Albarei Winery and City of Wine complex, designed by Frank Gehry. “Everyone had such a good time that they bought wine as a memento!”

Spain and Portugal

A group of like-minded adventurers

When setting out on tour, Gerry and his fellow travelers all embraced the same notion: “You should travel while you can, it’s a great opportunity.” His group was comprised of friends and family members at the same stage in their life, looking for the chance to learn about new cultures together.

From access to the Tour Director who led their trip to the extra room on the bus while on the road, the benefits of traveling with just his group stood out. “The cohesive group makes it more fun,” he mentioned. “You could maneuver more quickly and there was more flexibility.”
