The speakers

Hola! My name is Rafa Calvo and I started working as a Naturalist Guide in Tortuguero National Park in 1991.I am very very proud to be a Costa Rica native due to the efforts that our Government has done to preserve our natural environment and natural resources. One of my passions is to spend time in our National Parks....and not only enjoy the beauty of these protected areas and wildlife species but also sharing it with our travelers! Bird watching, marine turtles and the history of Costa Rica are some of my favorite topics that i share with our travelers when they visit me in Costa Rica.

Maikol was born in Sarapiqui, Costa Rica, where he has spent most of his life. He was involved in tourism starting at a very young age—he became a whitewater rafting guide when he was just 12 years old! Later in his life, Maikol began working on pineapple crops and leading tours about pineapple production. When he met Rolando, the owner of the pineapple plantation visited during this Online Escape, Maikol shared his belief that organic agriculture is the future of humanity and our amazing planet because it is the way to sustain life. Since then, both men have worked to bring more opportunities to the community through the foundation of Organic Paradise and a sustainable rural agro-tourism concept.
