Get into the Oktoberfest spirit and raise a stein (or three) to this charming trio of countries.

In Europe, there’s always something to celebrate—whether it’s the twinkling waters of Lake Lucerne or the soaring cupolas of St. Mark’s Basilica. And when Oktoberfest descends upon Germany, the good times flow like beer pouring from a barrel. This tour traces a path from the Swiss Alps to Venice, dropping you into the thick of Munich’s beloved volksfest during a stay in the city. Neuschwanstein Castle and Novacella Abbey star, too, as do the villa-lined shores of Lake Garda (if you add the extension to the Italian Lakes).

Your tour package includes

  • 8 nights in handpicked hotels
  • 8 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 3 dinners with beer or wine
  • 1 beer tasting, the beginning of your Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich
  • 1 wine tasting, the result of Novacella Abbey’s nine centuries of viticultural experience
  • 5 sightseeing tours, introducing you to the highlights that define the region
  • 1 expert Tour Director, your encyclopedia for all things Alpine
  • 4 local guides, ready to bring each stop to life
  • Private deluxe motor coach for smooth transportation between countries
  • Entrances to museums, landmarks, and more—so you can skip the lines

Included highlights

  • Getting caught up in the revelry of Munich’s Oktoberfest, the city’s legendary celebration of Bavarian culture
  • Looking up at the centuries-old paintings that adorn the ceiling of Lucerne’s Kapellbrucke
  • Visiting Liechtenstein, one of the world’s smallest nations
  • Marveling at the fairy-tale walls of Neuschwanstein Castle, rising above the German countryside
  • Following in the footsteps of Bavarian royalty as you tour Munich’s Nymphenburg Palace
  • Sipping wines made by the monks of Novacella Abbey during a guided tasting
  • Snapping photos beneath the restored arches of the Verona Arena
  • Soaking up the ambiance of St. Mark’s Square, surrounded by Venetian icons

Italian Lakes extension

Ringed by rugged mountains and defined by pristine blue waters, the Italian Lakes typify the country’s natural beauty. On this two-night extension, you and your group will visit Lake Garda, explore cities and castles, cruise between picturesque islands, and take in northern Italy’s unparalleled vistas—capping it all off with a farewell toast.

Italian Lakes

Day 10: Sightseeing tour of Lake Garda

Included meal: Breakfast

Due west of Venice, Lake Garda splits the regions of Veneto and Lombardy with its shimmering beauty. Today’s travels start aboard a vaporetto, or water taxi. After navigating Venice’s canals and meeting your bus, head to the edge of Italy’s largest lake for a spot of sightseeing.

  • Follow your Tour Director through the charming streets of Sirmione—a town set on a stunning eponymous peninsula—and roam its historic center.
  • Use your free time to pop between shops and restaurants. Alternatively, visit the impressive Scaligero Castle, a medieval fortress that guards old Sirmione and offers sweeping views of Lake Garda.

Finally, finish your journey to your hotel in the Italian Lakes region and settle in for a relaxing evening to yourself.

Day 11: Free day on the Italian Lakes

Included meal: Breakfast

Clustered together in the western reaches of Lake Maggiore, the Borromean Islands are something of a time capsule. They house a 16th-century palazzo, a traditional fishing village, and more—and by adding today’s optional excursion to your itinerary, you’ll get to see it all. Whether you take us up on it or rest at your hotel, you’ll come together as a group one last time this evening for a farewell drink.
