Back in November, Director of Travel Brittany H. traveled on the Kenya Wildlife Safari: Mount Kenya, Maasai Mara & Amboseli with her dad and got up close and personal with everything Kenya had to offer. “We almost saw the whole Big Five,” she said, “But there were no complaints; from feeding giraffes at the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi to watching a cheetah mom hunting impala for her teenage cubs, we couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
“Narrowing down my thousands of photographs down to just five was borderline impossible but this one is one of my favorites. We were on our first real game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, when seeing hundreds of zebras was still really exciting—you realize how spoiled you are when the thousandth sighting no longer prompts you to pull out your camera!”
“After a 4am wake-up call and an absolutely breathtaking hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara, we happened upon a lion chowing down on a freshly killed wildebeest. He wasn’t bothered that we were only feet away watching him—it was only the downwind smell of his breakfast that finally drove us away! Having the opportunity to literally watch the ‘circle of life’ was something I’ll never forget.”
“November is the season of the short rains in Kenya and we certainly saw our fair share of downpours. While I would have traded a sunny day for the rain we dodged while visiting a Masai Mara village, it was incredible to see how the natives live and how they embrace the rains. These three observed as we made our way through the village, watching them make fire, ducking into their mud huts and enjoying the traditional tribal chants.”
“Most of the elephants we saw were in Amboseli National Park and for whatever reason, these two were my favorite. Their grace, even with their size, was truly beautiful. While we had many days of blue sky, the deep blues of storm-heavy clouds made for such a dynamic backdrop.”
“We rose at sunrise numerous mornings, two of which to see Mount Kilimanjaro without it’s typical daytime cloud cover. This image was taken at 6am on our last full day in Kenya—by 10pm that night we’d be on a plane heading back home. I’m not sure I could have asked for a better way to say goodbye to one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been!”
