Our favorite restaurants in New Orleans to visit

May 30, 2016 by The Go Ahead Tours Team

New Orleans is a charming city with a local culture unlike anywhere else on the planet. There are streets to stroll, live music to experience and, most of all, a ton of food to eat. When you’re finished with a long day of exploring this diverse city, here’s are some restaurants in New Orleans we recommend to visit to rest and re-energize.

Beignets from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, Louisiana

Café du Monde

Visit at: 800 Decatur Street

Café de Monde is New Orleans’s most famous destination for beignets. Opt for a table (the line for the take-away window actually moves slower) and order a café au lait with your pastries. Be warned: You will get covered in powdered sugar.

Pêche Seafood Grill

Visit at: 800 Magazine Street

The place to go for seafood in the small plates format. A popular spot on weekends, the dining room regularly fills up. Try a weeknight or lunchtime visit to Pêche Seafood Grill for a more low-key atmosphere, and order something from the raw bar or try the chef’s delicate take on fish sticks.

Commander’s Palace

Visit at: 1403 Washington Ave

Traditionally frequented by the Garden District’s distinguished residents, Commander’s Palace is an excellent place to celebrate any occasion. Its stately dining room and secluded patio provide an excellent backdrop for the James Beard Foundation-awarded cuisine. Indulge in a multi-course tasting menu, or try a regional specialty like turtle soup.

Get a muffaletta sandwich from Butcher in New Orleans, Louisiana

Butcher

Visit at: 930 Tchoupitoulas Street

Butcher, the sister kitchen to the pricier Cochon, is located in the charming Arts District. Order decadent sandwiches like pulled pork or a muffaletta from the counter and choose from the curated list of beer, wine and specialty cocktails before grabbing a seat in the chic, industrial dining room.

Parkway Bakery & Tavern

Visit at: 538 Hagan Avenue

The po’ boy is a southern fast food staple, and the family-owned Parkway has some of New Orleans’ best. Step inside the vintage interior (the shop is 110 years old!) and try a massive “Surf and Turf,” a mix of roast beef and shrimp, or opt for the fried shrimp version the Obamas chose when the First Family visited in 2010.
