With an illustrious musical reputation, links to one of the most tragic disasters in history and home to some of the best sport in the nation, Liverpool begs to be explored. Read on to discover a few things you may not know about this diverse port town before traveling to England.

Liverpool was the port history of the Titanic

It was the port of registry for the Titanic

Although the infamous ocean liner never made a stop here, its ties to the city of Liverpool were strong. Headquartered on James Street, the White Star Line (Titanic's managing company) oversaw the details of the ship’s maiden voyage. As a result, at least one in ten crewmembers either came from or had close ties to the city.

Liverpool is the world capital of pop

Liverpool is the “World Capital City of Pop”

Given this musical moniker by the Guinness Book of World Records, Liverpool is home to more top-selling music groups than any other. Officially, more Liverpudlian artists have had chart-topping hits than musicians from any other city. The most prolific (and famous) of these are the Beatles, who alone had 20 number-one hits in the U.S. and 17 in the U.K.

Liverpool is known for its football or soccer

It is the most successful footballing city in England

Football, or “soccer” on our side of the pond, is one of England’s most well loved national pastimes. So it’s no surprise that Liverpool’s two Premier League teams, Liverpool FC and Everton FC, are the city’s pride and joy. Over the years, the two clubs have won over 50 championships and taken home quite a few FA, European, and UEFA Cups.
